When problems arise with your electric furnace, understanding how to identify and resolve them saves time and money. Whether you're dealing with heating inefficiencies, electrical malfunctions, odd noises or other performance issues, it’s often just a simple fix to keep your electric furnace running smoothly.

Common Problems and Fixes for Electric Heating

 Common Electric Furnace Issues & Solutions

The furnace won't turn on.

Potential Cause:

  1. No Power.
  2. The switch is off.
  3. Motor overload.

Solution:

  1. Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers at the main entrance panel, at separate entrance panel, and on the furnace. Restore circuit.
  2. Turn on the separate power switch on the furnace.
  3. Wait 30 min. Press the reset button. Repeat if needed.

Not enough heat.

Potential Cause:

  1. The thermostat is set too low.
  2. The filter is dirty.
  3. The blower is clogged.
  4. Registers closed/blocked.
  5. System out of balance.
  6. The blower belt is loose or broken.
  7. The element is faulty.

Solution:

  1. Raise thermostat setting 5 degrees.
  2. Clean or replace the filter.
  3. Clean blower assembly.
  4. Make sure all registers are open and not blocked by anything.
  5. Balance system.
  6. Adjust or replace the belt.
  7. Contact Trawicki Electric.

The furnace turns on/off repeatedly.

Potential Cause:

  1. The filter is dirty.
  2. Motor and/or blower needs lubrication.
  3. The blower is clogged.

Solution:

  1. Clean or replace the filter.
  2. If the motor and blower have oil ports, lubricate.
  3. Clean blower assembly.

The blower won’t stop running.

Potential Cause:

  1. Blower control is set incorrectly.
  2. Relays are faulty.

Solution:

  1. Reset thermostat from ON to AUTO.
  2. Contact Trawicki Electric.

The furnace is noisy.

Potential Cause:

  1. Access panels are loose.
  2. Belts sticking, worn, or damaged.
  3. Blower belt too loose or tight.
  4. Motor and/or blower needs lubrication.

Solution:

  1. Mount and fasten access panels correctly.
  2. Apply fan belt dressing to squeaky belts, replace worn or damaged belts.
  3. Adjust belt.
  4. If the motor and blower have oil ports, lubricate.
